Hoppekids and The Nordic Swan Ecolabel
Hoppekids is the first and (so far) the only producer in the world of modular children's furniture carrying the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Hoppekids acquired the Nordic Swan Ecolabel in 2013 for our modular bed systems, and has only added more ecolabelled products to our assortment ever since.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official eco-label of the Nordic countries and widely known among Nordic consumers - similar to the EU Ecolabel. It is used on non-food products such as washing powder, lotions, toilet paper and furniture. But what does it mean to have the Nordic Swan Ecolabel on your products and how does it impact you and your children’s everyday lives?
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel makes it easy for you to choose the best products for the environment. The label makes sure that the product meets strict standards regarding environment, health, quality and safety. The goal of the eco-label is to reduce the overall environmental impact from production to consumption. The label considers the entire journey of the product, when setting its requirements.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel: Strict requirements for furniture
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel guarantees that the entirety of the product’s journey – from raw material to production, use, disposal and recirculation – is factored in when the standards of the labelled products are set. Among others the products live up to strict chemical standards which is great for you and your children’s health as well as for the people producing the products and for the environment. The standards are constantly updated and tightened, so you are always sure that the Nordic Swan Ecolabelled products are environmentally sustainable, and a great choice for environment and health.
The requirements depend on the product type in question - meaning they are category-specific. For Hoppekids' bed systems, this means they must live up to standards set for furniture.

What does it mean for you and your children?
To have the Nordic Swan Ecolabel on your furniture means that you help sustain the forests of the world. It means that you take responsibility and consider which chemicals you want to keep out of your home - and out of nature. It means you want to save the few resources we have left. It means that you can feel safe that the furniture has been responsibly produced with the future of your children and the environment in mind.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel also means that you do not have to worry about your children’s health when they move around on, near and in the furniture. Since they will not give off any harmful substances it is quite alright to have a little taste. But we must warn you: The taste is rather bland.
Especially children’s furniture has to be able to take a beating and by choosing furniture with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, you are certain to get very tough and durable furniture which can withstand the treatment only children can provide.

Durable ecolabelled bed from certified forestry
The wood used in furniture with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel must come from evidently legally cut down trees, and the origin of the wood has to be traceable. A great share of the wood also has to come from certified sustainable forestry. For that reason, Hoppekids solely uses FSC-certified wood. FSC is an international non-profit label for wood and paper, taking care of the environment, people, and economic conditions.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel also has strict standards regarding furniture durability because the environmental impact mainly happens during production. The longer the furniture lasts, the fewer pieces of furniture will need to be produced. That is why the Nordic Swan Ecolabel is seen as a strong seal of approval concerning quality, durability and recyclability.
Strict chemical requirements for ecolabelled beds
The products must also live up to strict chemical requirements - this is great for your kid's health, the people producing the products, and for the environment. The furniture also cannot contain chemicals such as phthalates, heavy metals, flame retardants or fluorinated substances, which can function as endocrine disruptors.
Furthermore, the glue and paint used cannot contain anything cancer-causing. All Hoppekids surfaces are treated with environmentally friendly, water-based lacquer - free from unnecessary chemicals and harmful substances. There are also strict standards regarding the evaporation of the surface treatment, because this is important for the indoor climate and those using the furniture.

Hoppekids has 3 bed series with ecolabelled beds - ECO Dream and ECO Luxury. All beds from these collections cary the Nordic Swan Ecolabel - whether it's a juniorbed, bunk bed, house bed, or one of the other bed types.

Babybed with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel
Besides the ecolabelled junior beds from Hoppekids, you can also find the certified babybed, ANTON. ANTON is a 120x60cm cot that can be changed into a bench, when there is no longer use for a cot, thereby prolonging the life of the babybed.
